Chapter 268: One Sit and Be amazed
Chapter 268: One Sit and Be amazed
On August 4, 1982, at the Parliament Building in the capital of the newly established nation, half an hour before the official meeting at 9:00 a.m., the area around the building was already heavily guarded. Within a radius of five kilometers, there were heavily armed soldiers patrolling, and armed helicopters patrolling overhead.
Around the building, rows of luxury bulletproof cars were parked. Almost all of the 46 heads of state had arrived, except for Thomas from the Western Turks and Chairman Tang from the Eastern Turks.
The heads of state sat around a large round table, carefully reviewing the meeting agenda and related materials, with some whispering among themselves.
Perhaps it was calculated and deliberately arranged, but at 8:55, President Thomas of the Western Turkic Kingdom and Chairman Tang of the Eastern Turkic Kingdom "joined hands" to enter the conference center, and the hall resounded with enthusiastic applause.
Before taking their seats, the heads of state of the two most powerful nations on the planet shook hands for the first time in fifty years, witnessed by many other heads of state, and applause rang out once again.
After everyone was seated, the ceremony was presided over by the Speaker of the New Nation Parliament, the host country. Although the New Nation was a neutral country, it had been invaded by the Eastern Nation. The Speaker of the New Nation Parliament did not directly address this issue in his speech, but rather subtly stated that the New Nation had been innocently harmed due to the conflict between East and West. He expressed his delight that the two countries had signed a ceasefire agreement and welcomed the world leaders to discuss the crisis.
The armistice agreement was signed; because both sides had communicated thoroughly before the meeting, only minor revisions to the wording and language were needed. An hour later, everyone applauded to congratulate the signing of the armistice agreement.
Within a week, the Western Turks withdrew their aircraft carrier battle group from the South China Sea to the Pacific Ocean. Nearly half of their military forces in the three allied countries were withdrawn, in exchange for the Eastern Turks' 500,000 troops withdrawing 400 kilometers, leaving only a standard number of border guards. Both sides maintained the pre-war border between the Eastern Turks and the newly established nation.
To prevent a recurrence of a nuclear war and a full-scale war like this, it is necessary to strengthen communication channels between the two countries' leaders, establish a dedicated hotline for leaders, and form an international united front to coordinate affairs between countries and maintain international order. Of course, this organization is also established to address global crises.
The second agenda item began at 10:00 AM: responding to the global crisis.
To Thomas and his colleagues’ surprise, many heads of state seemed to blame Western Turks when discussing strange events and crises around the world.
"President Thomas, they've all been rather tactful, but I'll be frank with you. Everyone believes that this global crisis was caused by you," a bearded Middle Eastern head of state said bluntly.
"President Ahmed, I don't understand. How is this global crisis related to us? You don't think we did it, do you?"
"President Thomas, it's not that you did it, you don't seem to have that capability right now, but you actually landed on Horizon Earth and we had no idea."
"President Ahmed, I personally believe that landing on the Horizon planet has nothing to do with other countries."
"Your statement is a bit too absolute. If there are civilizations more advanced than ours on those two horizon planets, aren't you just provoking them? This global strange event was definitely the work of aliens. I suggest that any future landings on other planets by any country should be authorized by the international coalition."
“Yes,” “Yes,” “I agree with President Ahmed’s suggestion…” Thomas noticed that even the heads of state of the three allied countries were nodding, and he couldn’t help but wonder what was going on.
"President Thomas, let me offer my opinion. Please forgive me if I say anything inappropriate." Thomas composed himself upon hearing Chairman Tang's words. "Chairman Tang, please speak."
"I think President Ahmed makes a good point, because landing on the Horizon is indeed a dangerous move. After all, we don't know if there are any extraterrestrial threats on the Horizon. The strange events happening around the world now seem to be attributable to some kind of extraterrestrial force. These blue planets can be developed and utilized by everyone. You just want to monopolize the resources, which is why you're showing off your military might and provoking us. Everyone understands that. Now that you've created this global crisis, can your Western Turkic Kingdom solve it alone? Only by uniting as one can we solve it together."
President Tang's words seemed to resonate with everyone, and apart from six or seven heads of state, the other heads of state applauded enthusiastically.
"Chairman Tang, now is not the time for us to blame and hurt each other. You are right, and I strongly agree that all countries in the world must work together to solve this crisis."
"Since President Thomas has put it this way, I hope we can all be open and honest and have a friendly discussion. Let me start by saying that the night before last, your planes dropped bombs on our personnel, but the bombs did not explode immediately. Instead, they hovered about two meters above the ground near our personnel for five minutes, until our personnel had safely evacuated, at which point these dozen or so bombs landed and exploded. This is quite a strange thing, President Thomas, I'm sure you are aware of it, right?"
"Yes, our infrared photos show that. Ladies and gentlemen, there have been too many bizarre and strange events around the world these past few days. I believe it is some kind of external force demonstrating its existence."
"President Thomas, did your astronauts who landed on Horizon Earth discover anything?"
President Thomas glanced at Chairman Tang, then scanned the others. Seeing their expectant expressions, he pondered for a moment, then said, "Gentlemen, to be honest, after our astronauts landed on a grassland on the horizon, we discovered human cavalry."
These people were heads of state, and they didn't exclaim in surprise, but their hearts still trembled slightly.
"If it's cavalry, does that mean our technological strength is superior to theirs?" one of the leaders asked.
"It's hard to say. Maybe these cavalrymen are from a less developed area of Horizon Planet. Aren't some of the more primitive tribes on Earth also cavalrymen?"
"And what about your astronauts?"
"They either get caught or hide in a spaceship. If they're in a spaceship, the four of them can only last for half a month."
"Do you have any remedial measures?"
"We recently attempted to launch a group of high-performance communication satellites to communicate with them via satellite, but the rocket exploded in mid-air shortly after launch."
A moment of silence fell over everyone. It was clear that the other side had destroyed all the satellites in the sky above the Earth. Nowadays, many countries rely on telegraphs for long-distance information transmission, while the Western Turks are more advanced and rely on fiber optic networks.
Suddenly, several beams of light shone down, sweeping horizontally and vertically. Wherever these beams touched, the people disappeared. There was a scream in the hall, followed by silence. There was no one left in the hall.
When everyone regained their senses from the dizziness, they found themselves in a large room. They looked at each other, wondering what had happened.
Just as everyone was surprised, a tall, handsome young man entered. He waved to everyone and then sat down in the leader's seat at the long table. "Please sit down, everyone."
Everyone looked at the man with hesitation, then at President Thomas and Chairman Tang.
"Young man, who are you? And where is this place?"
"Chairman Tang, Thomas, please sit down first, and I will explain to you."
Chairman Tang, Thomas, and others sat down.
"Everyone, I won't waste any more words. I can say with certainty that your sun has the resources of ten Earths. I don't know why the Western and Eastern Tu countries went to such lengths to fight and almost destroyed humanity. If it weren't for Zhou Yuan stopping them, your Earth would probably have been destroyed."
The other heads of state stared wide-eyed upon hearing that the sun was ten times the size of Earth. Thomas and Chairman Tang were both secretly alarmed upon hearing Zhou Yuan's name. Chairman Tang wondered, wasn't Zhou Yuan an undercover agent in the Western Lands with Chu Xiaolu? Thomas thought, wasn't Zhou Yuan at the National Academy of Sciences? Neither of them knew how this matter had anything to do with Zhou Yuan.
"As for who I am, you wouldn't believe me even if I told you. To put it simply, the Zhou Yuan who saved you humans on Earth is dead. I am another Zhou Yuan. You can think of me as Zhou Yuan from your parallel world."
"Parallel worlds?" Everyone was stunned when they heard this.
How do we know that what you're saying is true?
Zhou Yuan smiled slightly, "Thomas, I don't need to prove my identity. This matter is too bizarre and beyond your comprehension."
"Then what is your purpose in bringing us here?"
"Chairman Tang, I have only one goal: I hope that you humans on Earth and the humans on the Horizon will unite."
Humans from Horizon Earth? It seems there are humans on Horizon Earth. Thomas said their astronauts encountered cavalry, so it's possible.
Zhou Yuan seemed to be able to guess what everyone was thinking. He gently pressed on the table, and a spherical holographic screen appeared in the center of the rectangular table. The clear image showed many people carrying old-fashioned guns, watching several people use welding torches to cut the spaceship near it. Thomas was shocked. Jack and the other four astronauts were probably in danger.
"Thomas, I think you also want to rescue Jack and the others. Chairman Tang, I don't think you're someone who launches missiles indiscriminately. As long as your two families don't clash, your Earth should be peaceful."
"Zhou Yuan, we have already signed a ceasefire agreement."
“Simply signing a ceasefire agreement is not enough. I want all the countries on Earth to be one big family, to live in peace, cooperate and share resources forever. You don’t need to worry about resources. Aren’t these ten planets enough for the development of human civilization on two of your planets?”
Judging from Zhou Yuan's tone, it seemed that the ten planets were already his for the taking.
"Thomas, don't worry, I'll rescue you four astronauts right now."
"Nana," Zhou Yuan called out.
"The Sage is here." A woman's voice came from across the conference table from Zhou Yuan. Everyone turned their heads and saw a holographic virtual figure on the ground.
"Nana, send out the intelligent robot to rescue the four astronauts and bring them here. Oh, and don't hurt the Flatlands."
"Yes." After saying that, the holographic virtual body disappeared.
"Everyone, please wait a moment, it will be ready in about twenty minutes. Please watch the holographic display."
As everyone watched the holographic image appear in the center of the table, about six minutes after Nana disappeared, they discovered that five robots suddenly descended from the sky in the holographic image. Many of the Pingli aliens carrying guns hadn't even reacted before they saw a blur, and the five robots had already taken all their guns off with lightning speed, each gun barrel being bent by force.
Thomas and the others watched as the five robots appeared and moved as quickly as ghostly shadows.
The Flatlanders, who were cutting up the spaceship, were terrified and had already retreated far away. One of the five robots stepped forward and slammed its hammer into the hatch several times, but there was no response. This robot then took a welding torch, lit it, and burned a ring around the hatch before kicking it down. The metal door collapsed, and a moment later, Thomas and the others saw Jack and his three companions being dragged out one by one by the robots. Jack and the others tried to struggle, but to no avail.
One robot led the way, with four others carrying Jack and his companions. The five robots began to ascend, slowly disappearing from the horrified sight of the Flatlanders.
Footsteps sounded outside the door. When Jack and his three companions entered the room, they were surprised to see people inside, and to see the spaceship and the Flat Earth aliens displayed on the holographic screen. The heads of state inside the room were stunned to see Jack and his companions, who had just been in the holographic image, now appearing in front of them.
